Wildlife Survey and Data Management Database - WS_OccurPoint_DR

WS_OCCURPOINT_DR_SV is a spatial view that joins all the domains referenced in the WS_OCCURPOINT_DR layer with the appropriate domain lookup tables. All domains are decoded to provide a version of the data for use by non-ESRI reporting tools and export out to shape file format. In this spatial view joined description fields immediately follow the field they refer to.

The Wildlife Survey and Data Management Database - OCCURPOINT contains information on documented point observations for state and federal listed species including those designated as endangered, threatened, sensitive, candidate, and monitor. Additionally, data for other species considered a priority by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife are also included. This database represents observations from 1881 to the present.
Wildlife Survey and Data Management data are collected by a variety of means. Data are collected in the field by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists, biologists from other agencies or research institutions, volunteers, private organizations, and the general public. Data consist of standard survey data, museum records, scientific collection permit records, and incidental observations. Data are also extracted from other databases, reports and published documents. Less formal means of data submittal include e-mail and phone conversations.
Scope of the database is statewide and encompasses over 230 species. The database is continually updated. High priority species are surveyed either every year or every five years. Lower priority species are surveyed as field logistics allow or on a less rigorous schedule. Observations contained in the Wildlife Survey and Data Management Database range in time from 1881 to present. Only the most current (1978 and later) and accurately known data will be supplied. All other data will only be provided in response to special written requests. Using these older data requires consultation with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists.

The Wildlife Survey and Data Management database are used for documentation and tracking of species abundance, distribution, breeding and population status in Washington State. These data are used for the development of survey needs and priorities, conservation efforts, research projects, management and recovery plans, and species status reports by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, other state and federal agencies, counties, research institutions and private organizations. Some data have regulatory impacts and are used to screen proposed land development projects and timber sales. The database also contains data from non-detection survey efforts for particular species.

The Wildlife Survey and Data Management Database contains specific location data for some sensitive fish and wildlife species. Access is constrained to internal users, or external recipients who have established a Sensitive Fish and Wildlife Information Release Agreement with Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife regarding the use and further release of sensitive data. Private landowners are given data pertinent to their ownership without a Sensitive Fish and Wildlife Information Release Agreement
Information on specific locations of some fish and wildlife species in this data are deemed "sensitive" and access is restricted by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife under its Releasing Sensitive Fish and Wildlife Policy - 5210. Release of "sensitive" fish and wildlife information will be granted to only those parties listed in Section 2 of the policy after a signed Sensitive Fish and Wildlife Information Release Agreement has been obtained. This agreement indicates that the signatory (person or organization) recognizes the appropriate guidelines for "sensitive" fish and wildlife information and has agreed to the provisions of the policy. For questions regarding the policy contact Washington Department of Fish Information on specific locations of some fish and wildlife species in this data are deemed "sensitive" and access and further dissemination is restricted by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife under Releasing Sensitive Fish and Wildlife Information - Policy 5210. Occurrence data are derived from a variety of sources. Most data are from natural resource professionals. Species identfication confidence is encoded in the VERIFICATION domain.
Unique identifiers exist for data. Multiple records may exist for one given location but these data will represent different species.
The data in the Wildlife Survey and Data Management database is the best-known data available. No claim is made as to the completeness of the data for a species distribution throughout the state. Statewide surveys are attempted for some species but most data result from project area specific survey efforts or ad hoc or random observations. The data come from a variety of sources including state & federal agencies, consultants, volunteers and private citizens.
Positionally accurate data for current observations are represented as point locations. Positional accuracy is coded to some degree in the field "ACURACY." Locational accuracy generally ranges from 6 ft to 1 mile; and locations from museum specimens and other historical data can have locational accuracies greater than 1 mile.

Wildlife Survey and Data Management data are collected by a variety of means. Data are collected in the field by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists, biologists from other agencies or research institutions, volunteers, private organizations, and the general public. Data consist of standard survey data, museum records, scientific collection permit records, and incidental observations. Data are also extracted from other databases, reports and published documents. Less formal means of data submittal include e-mail and phone conversations.
Scope of the database is statewide and encompasses over 230 species. The database is continually updated. High priority species are surveyed either every year or every five years. Lower priority species are surveyed as field logistics allow or on a less rigorous schedule. Observations contained in the Wildlife Survey and Data Management Database range in time from 1881 to present. Only the most current (1978 and later) and accurately known data will be supplied. All other data will only be provided in response to special written requests. Using these older data requires consultation with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists.

The Wildlife Survey and Data Management database are used for documentation and tracking of species abundance, distribution, breeding and population status in Washington State. These data are used for the development of survey needs and priorities, conservation efforts, research projects, management and recovery plans, and species status reports by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, other state and federal agencies, counties, research institutions and private organizations. Some data have regulatory impacts and are used to screen proposed land development projects and timber sales. The database also contains data from non-detection survey efforts for particular species.
