The dataset was created by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) in 2007 based on descriptions in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 2019 and is intended to act as a tool to indicate the location and spatial extent of the whale protection area for use by vessel and aircraft operators.
